Biography
Joe Charlton is a professional horn player originally from the Oklahoma City area. He received a Bachelors of Arts in Music degree from Oklahoma City University under Kate Pritchett, Principal Horn of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, and received a Masters in Horn Performance from the University of Missouri - Kansas City, under Marty Hackleman, former Principal Horn of the National Symphony Orchestra, and former member of the Canadian Brass. Joe currently holds the Principal Horn position with the Dallas Wind Symphony as of 2023. He has performed with many different orchestras throughout the United States, such as: the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, the Tulsa Symphony, Dallas Wind Symphony, Wichita Symphony, Lawton Philharmonic, Norman Philharmonic, Painted Sky Opera, and Albany Symphony in New York. Joe was a recording artist for the Celtic Woman 20th Anniversary TV Special, and has also performed as part of an orchestra with touring artists such as: Andrea Bocelli and Hila Plitmann. Joe was also a part of the pit orchestra for the USA tour of Broadway hit, Wicked, in Oklahoma City. Joe has been performing with the Oklahoma Haydn Festival since 2016, fulfilling various roles in the Horn section, including Principal Horn. He teaches private Horn lessons around the Oklahoma City metro area, with many of his students making various Oklahoma All-State groups, and Oklahoma Youth Orchestras. Joe currently resides in Oklahoma City with his fiancee, Sara McKean, two cats, Pluto and Nova, and two frogs, Froakie and Mushi.
A native of Ponca City, Jim Waddelow, is Music Director and Conductor of the Raleigh Symphony Orchestra, White iris Light Opera, and Artistic Director of the Oklahoma Haydn Festival. Jim also serves Meredith College as Director of Instrumental Activities, conducting the Meredith Philharmonic, Sinfonietta, Opera, and musical theater productions for Meredith Ensemble Theater. Guest appearances have included theater companies and symphonies in Oklahoma, Texas, North Carolina, Arkansas, Kansas, Virginia, Missouri, Oregon, and numerous all-state and all-region orchestras. Jim has conducted over 300 performances of more than 70 musicals and operas at the professional and college level. Previous conducting affiliations include the Oklahoma Youth Symphony, Lubbock Youth Symphony, Texas Tech University, Next Generation Performing Arts Camp in Joplin, Missouri, Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony in Eureka Springs Arkansas, and the University of Central Oklahoma. A strong advocate of music education, he has conducted over 200 guest appearances and clinics in public schools. A passionate proponent of the new music of younger composers, he is known for his innovative programming. Press reviews have referred to performances as “bright, articulate, and beautifully balanced”, and “astonishing precision and polish; a joy from start to finish.” He holds a doctorate in orchestral conducting from Texas Tech University.
